While wandering around a military vehicle show, we couldn’t resist snapping some shots of a Jeep with its trailer. After all, the sun was shining & you can never have too many references of the Jeep!
The Willys Jeep or MB hardly needs an introduction. It is one of those legendary designs that changed everything – its name has even become a generic term for a 4x4 type vehicle.
But the Jeep also had a drawback, namely the meager cargo space. So the US Army ordered a trailer be devised especially for the Jeep.
The little trailer had a capacity of a quarter of a tonne & was completely watertight – which was a handy feature. Hence the official denomination “Trailer 1/4ton 2W Cargo Amphibian”. Apparently, it proved very useful for G.I.s who fancied a quick bath.
In one moment, the only real shortcoming of the American truck was scrubbed away! As a result, you can see the trailers being towed by numerous Jeeps in archive films from World War Two. And it’s a neat accessory to add to your plastic model.
In kit form, you’ll find the trailer in Italeri’s old Jeep release (ref: 314) which is also bundled with Revell’s LCM kit (ref:3000).
So in the meantime, enjoy this photoset.
