At first they may appear too orangey or yellow-y, but when applied in thin coats in varying amounts over the base shades they recreate rust perfectly.
We've found the orangey UA703 to be a really useful shade.
You can dilute them & apply them as a wash or alternatively spray gently using an airbrush or stipple the paint at low pressure. You can also apply it using the dappled sponge technique.
However, we've found they work best when mottled on using a gauze with our appropriately called "mottled gauze effect". We'll describe this fully another time but essentially it involves spraying through some gauze packaging that was once a screen protector supplied with an iPhone.
When sprayed through the tiny holes you get a convincing mottled rust effect. Keep an eye out for our next tutorial on using Lifecolor's set with this technique but you can see how it worked out on our Tamiya 1:24th VW Beetle that will be released as a premium build video soon.
So if you want to achieve a vast array of rust effects this set will give you the colours to achieve it!
