The problem manufacturers face is trying to replicate the intricate detail of the barbs to scale. We’ve tried photoetch barbed wire before with less than satisfactory results. RMG definitely comes to the rescue though with RMG, Ref: RM013.
Made in 1:35th scale, the barbed wire comes in a plastic see-through box with a backing card & copper ground spikes stored behind. There’s a fair amount supplied, about 86cm, so enough to make one diorama.
The first surprise is how flexible the wire is. We expected it to be hard & springy but actually the copper is easily bent or adapted to form any shape.
Closer inspection reveals the barbs to be intricately created & correctly attached to an intertwined main wire. Make no mistake, this is an exact replica of a real stretch of barbed wire & is utterly realistic.
We were mighty impressed with not only the quality but the accuracy.
We ordered direct from RMG’s website & after a delivery hiccup were able to use the wire on our desert Kubelwagen diorama.
Painting is fairly simple, just attach the wire to card so it’s easier to handle & make sure to use a primer – we used Vallejo’s excellent black acrylic primer. You can then spray top coats in rust colours of your choosing. We then attached the wire using the copper support spikes, supplied & secured with glue & hey presto! Job done.
Highly recommended.
