Schwerer Plattformen - Dragon Ref: 6069
As part of our BR52 build we needed a load for our loco - the Dragon Typ SSy Plattformwagen seemed to fit the bill.

Dragon’s Schwerer Plattformwagen is a 1:35th Scale kit from the ’39 – ’45 series released as reference 6069. It was last in the catalogue some years ago & has since proved hard to find.

It has been re-released only recently under the Cyber-Hobby label packaged with a Panzer III bundled alongside it.

The model comes moulded in the light grey greasy plastic so common in early Dragon kits. The construction stages are fairly straightforward given the nature of the real thing.

The only drawback is the lack of any of the wiring & braking system on the underside, but in any case this will be hidden away.

The deck portion comes with a convincing wood grain texture to the planks & there’s a well-stocked set of waterslide decals for all the Deutsches Reichsbahn stenciling.

The kit went together simply & easily with no problems whatsoever.

We started off the painting process by priming the model with a satin Black base (Tamiya X-1). Then a brown acrylic mix made from Tamiya XF-79 was sprayed on with post shading in the same shade darkened with XF-1 Black.

Next a mix of various shades of German Grey (XF-63) was sprayed on. Lightened highlight coats were then sprayed into the centre of the panels & sides. Individual planks were picked out in differing shades of brown for variety.

The model was then sealed with a coat of Klear & smaller individual components either picked out in lightened versions of the base coat or primer & rust shades.

Now the flatcar is ready to receive its markings & weathering before taking its place next to the locomotive.

As soon as that is done, we will update this post.

So until this flatcar is shunted off the sidings & onto the workbench, here’s some photos of progress so far.

Update - We've uploaded more shots of the weathered model. For the weathering we used Iwata ComArt's Real Deal railroad set. These paints are EXCELLENT - watch out for a review soon.
