TAMIYA CHURCHILL CROCODILE

For a long time Tamiya’s 1:35th Churchill moulds were the only game in town & their Crocodile captured a fearsome variant.

The flame-throwing Crocodile was so feared that its crews risked summary execution if captured alive. Now, with AFV Club’s Churchills out, the “Croc” may seem outdated – but that’s not the case!

Tamiya’s model (Ref: 35100) is still a great kit of an awesome looking machine. Although it will surely come, AFV Club hasn’t yet released it in their range.

The advantage of the Tamiya kit is not only the rarity of the subject, but its simplicity & ease of assembly, making it perfect for a beginner. This philosophy characterizes the Japanese manufacturers’ releases.

An added interest is that the tank itself saw widespread usage on most fronts in World War Two & even found its way to the war in Korea in the 1950s. So it has great diorama potential.

We felt our kit needed a refit & upgrade – in fact we built it & painted it several years ago. One of the great things with models is that you can strip them & start again. That’s exactly what we did with this one as a new coat of paint was definitely called for.

With the aid of the product “Model Strip”, we got the Crocodile back to the bare plastic & were able to paint it all over again.

We’re posting it here to show that just because you’ve finished & painted a model once, doesn’t mean you can’t give it a new lease of life all over again.

Second time around, all we added, by way of extras, was some homemade turret-side stowage sculpted in Kneadatite Duro.

So remember, just because a kit comes from a decades-old mould & isn’t a brand new release, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun building or painting it - or even repainting it – Tamiya’s 1:35th Crocodile is a fine example of that!
